John Adams: "Arms in the hands of citizens may be used at individual discretion in private self defense." (A defense of the Constitution of the US)

Choosing a Concealed Carry Permit

The Amendment II philosophy - Training, awareness and avoidance are the very best defense mechanism for oneself and others around you.

With  ever changing recognition and reciprocity of state CCW permits, it can get confusing as to which permit suits your lifestyle.

Some state permits require training and/or live fire, others require only an application fee and fingerprints. Ultimately the responsibility lies with the individual.

Some considerations:

  • Where are you most likely to travel?
  • What is the status of your resident state permit in neighboring and destination areas.
Here is a reference for reciprocity and recognition information :
  • Do you currently hold a resident permit or are you a new applicant?
  • Some states offer different types of permits. What are the differences in acceptance and costs?
  • Is there a neighboring state issuing Non-Resident permits that will fill coverage gaps?
  • What is the cost of training, application fees, photos etc.?

This list is in no way complete but offers a few tidbits for your consideration.
